Happy Christmas from The Travelling Mallorys

It’s Chriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiistmas!

Calm down dear.

I love Chriiiiiiiiiiiistmas!

Yes, but you don’t have to say it like Noddy Holder every time. Honestly. Anyroad, we wanted to share with you what Christmas is like on the other side of the world (assuming you are in England when you read this because we’re in Australia).

We’ve been Chriiiiiiiiiiiistmas shopping to get all the stuff we need for a traditional day. Here’s our story…

We’re staying at our friend’s place in Melbourne, so first things first – we decorated!

Christmas Tree

First we got a tree - this took ages! Almost the whole of Melbourne was sold out, but we didn't give up.

Tinsel bookshelf

Then we got some tinsel on the go. That also proved more difficult to find than one might imagine, but we did it!

Next up it was time to go food shopping. Where do Ozzies go food shopping you ask?

Woolies!

Woolies!

Shopping

I got a bit excited in the chocolate aisle!

But we got it all done - note the name on the red bag. My favourite shop!

Once home we started the preparations.

I studied Delia's recipe for our starter

And I started working out the best order to eat these in

And I started working out the best order to eat these in - you have to have Roses at Christmas!

Once I was happy with the recipe, we started on the starter of gazpacho soup. Here’s what we did:

I chopped up basil, tomatoes and spring onions

Then mixed it in a bowl with some cucumber

Then I put it all in the blender

And gave it a good old-fashioned wazz

Here's the finished soup. Can't wait to eat that on Christmas Day!

We’re also having turkey and all the business, but we haven’t made it yet so I can’t do you a photo story of that.

Which after watching us make soup, dear reader, you will no doubt be pleased about! All that remains is for us to wish all our friends, family

and fans

a very Happy Chriiiiiiiiiiiiistmas!

and a happy new year! We miss you all.

  3. Merry Christmas! Good job on making an effort to be Christmassy. We had no idea where to find a Christmas tree (or Roses) in Colombia so we aren’t feeling as festive. We did get Maltesers at the airport though!

    • Maltesers will do it. It’s all about the Christmas state of mind. Enjoy!

  4. […] merry blog readers. We had a lush Christmas, thanks for asking. The gazpacho you heard about in our last post was a triumph. That was followed by a proper roast with all the trimmings. We had crackers (aka as […]
